I was blessed and surprised yesterday to check my email and see two messages from two black women who identified with my piece “The Juggling Act.” After some further research, I realized that I was published in the paper! Thanks to those two women reaching out to me and letting me know!
In the piece, I talk about the daunting task that faces the educated black woman — the juggling of two worlds, the black world and the white world (coined by WEB DuBois as “double consciousness”). I also touch on the concept of education…and how education does get us places, however, no amount of education can change the fact that we are black, and we are received differently in this world and ultimately…must learn how to navigate the world wisely.
